Venice is located on Santa Monica Bay, between Santa Monica and Marina del Rey. Recreational opportunities in Venice are endless ... particularly for those that enjoy being on or near the water. But even if you are a landlubber ... there is tons of fun to be had for everyone, regardless of age and interest.
Venice Beach is the second most popular tourist visitation / recreation spot in Southern California (Disney Land being number one). Venice boasts of having the widest beach on the bay ... complete with bicycle paths (over 20 miles from Malibu to Redondo Beach), rollerblading, parks for children and a boardwalk the whole length of the beach.

Muscle Beach is world famous for the their workout facilities ... and there is plenty of running room for joggers. Water sports abound ... the younger set enjoys surfing and swimming; the more mature, a brisk walk along the beach. There is also a large number of sand volleyball courts and the competition is fierce!

Venice has excellent public recreational facilities including paddle tennis courts, basketball courts and handball at the beach. There are public tennis courts and a golf course at Venice's Penmar Park, just east of Lincoln Boulevard. The Venice fishing pier is a great place for anglers to spend a weekend afternoon.

Marina del Rey, the world's largest small craft harbor, is located adjacent to Venice to the south. The marina is the only boat harbor on the bay. There are slips for 5000 recreational boaters. Sailing is popular along with fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, rowing and cruising. Catalina Island is only 26 miles away. There are plenty of boat rentals available. There is a wide selection of yacht clubs to choose from. They sponsor a busy summer racing and cruising program.
For spectators, there is volleyball, paddle tennis, handball and fitness competitions, plus skateboarding exhibitions and a host of other events including people watching on the famous Venice Beach boardwalk. This is also "the spot" for movie locations. So if you are into people watching or stargazing ... the boardwalk is a great place to become the ultimate spectator.

... or just do nothing ... and enjoy!

And we can't forget the dogs ... the Westminster Dog Park is a reasonably new addition to Venice. If you are a dog owner this is the place to take your best friend. This is the only place on the West Side of LA where dogs can run off leash legally and safely. It is fenced in and even has rangers to monitor activities.
